Lily's Watercolour Portrait

I loved creating Lily's portrait! We had so much fun choosing her photo for her pet portrait. We thought this fabulous, close-up photo of her beautiful eyes would make a stunning portrait.

Painting Lily, my beautiful Persian cat, in watercolour was such a lovely experience. I especially wanted to capture the features that make her so special to me — her incredibly bright eyes and her wonderfully fluffy fur.

Her eyes immediately draw me in. They have such a bright, expressive quality that I found myself focusing on them throughout the painting. I wanted my watercolours to bring out that little spark in her eyes, because they seem to capture so much of Lily’s personality.

Then there’s her fur. Lily is wonderfully fluffy, with a soft, cloud-like coat that was both a joy and a challenge to paint. I used delicate layers of watercolour to build up the texture, trying to give her fur that soft, fluffy appearance without losing the lightness and movement of the brushstrokes.

For me, this portrait is more than just a painting of a cat. It’s my way of capturing a little piece of Lily’s character — those bright, beautiful eyes, that wonderfully fluffy coat, and all the charm that makes her unmistakably Lily.
